[Am Wochenende des 2. - 4. Juli findet in Rudolstadt/Thüringen das größte deutsche Folk- und Weltmusikfestival statt. In dieser Sendung habe ich Musik von Gruppen und KünstlerInnen gespielt, die dieses Jahr in Rudolstadt gastieren. In der ersten Hälfte stellte ich einige Geheimtips vor, in der zweiten die eher großen Namen. Alle Tracks finden sich auf einer Doppel-CD, die die Festivalleitung zur Vorbereitung zusammengestellt hat.]
[On the weekend of 2nd to 4th July in Rudolstadt/Thüringen (East Germany) the biggest german folk and world music festival will take place. In this programm I played only music from groups and artists that will guest this years festival. First half of the show was about some lesser known artists, second half on the big names. All tracks are collected on a double-CD that the Rudolstadt-management sends out to journalists for promotion purposes.]

[Es fiel mir auf, daß auf vielen westeuropäischen Folk-CDs einzelne osteuropäische Stücke enthalten sind, auch wenn die Musik ansonsten ganz andere Schwerpunkte hat. Diese "exotischen" Schmankerl bringen oft nicht nur Abwechslung durch andere Melodien und andere Rhythmik, oft sind es sogar die Stücke, die mir auf einer CD am besten gefallen. Da ich keine besondere Vorliebe für osteuropäische Musik habe, fragte ich mich, ob westeuropäische InterpretInnen osteuropäisches Material auf eine besondere Art und Weise spielen. Ich kam zum Schluß, daß erstens besonders eingängige Tanzmelodien ausgewählt werden, und daß diese klarer, akzentuierter, wenn auch weniger swingend gespielt werden. Instrumentierung und Arrangements sind an westeuropäische Folk-Traditionen angepaßt. In dieser Sendung entwickelte ich diese These anhand einiger Beispiele und Ausnahmen.]
[I happened to notice, that some west-european Folk-CDs contain one or two east-european tracks, even though the rest of the music is of a totally different kind. These exotic titbits not only bring a different type of melodies or rythms onto the CD - often I like those tracks best on the whole album. As I am not a special fan of east-european music, I wondered whether west-european artists have a different approach to east-european material. My theses is that they chose rather catchy melodies and play them in a more clear and accentuated though less swinging way. Instrumentation and arrangements are as well acommodated to west-european folk-standards. In this show I develloped the theses by playing some good examples and some exceptions.]

[In der Nachfolge von Shooglenifty haben einige schottische Folk-Musiker erkannt, daß Folk durchaus auch dancefloor-tauglich sein kann. Gitarrenorientierter Folk-Rock wird durch baßlastigen 90er-Jahre-Folk verdrängt. In dieser Sendung versuchte ich einige wichtige CDs und Interpreten dieser Richtung vorzustellen. Der eher traditionelle Einstieg mit Silly Wizzard sollte zeigen, wie gute schottische Folk-Musik früher klang.]
[Like Shooglenifty some scottish folk musicians recognized that Folk can even melt together with modern dancefloor tendencies. Guitar-centered folk-rock was replaced by bass-oriented 90s-Folk. [Eine ganze Stunde voller Folk-Walzer. Wird das nicht langweilig? Nein, denn es gab schwedische, bretonische, englische usw. Walzer-Melodien zu hören. Wohl in ganz Europa ist der Walzer einer der wichtigsten Volkstänze und damit quasi ein völkerverbindendes Element geworden.]
[A whole hour of Folk-Waltzes. Isn't that a bit boring? No, not at all, for there were Waltz-Melodies from Sweden, Brittany, England and so on. It seems that the Waltz is almost all over Europe one of the most important Folk-Dances and became thus really a means of promoting the understanding among nations.]

[Diesmal portraitierte ich die bretonische Folk- und Folkrock-Band Sonerien Du, die in den 26 Jahren ihrer Existenz 13 Cassetten, LPs und CDs aufgenommen hat. Glücklicherweise habe ich alle Aufnahmen in meiner Sammlung (vom 84er-Album roue marc'h leider nur eine nicht sendefähige Kopie). Am liebsten mag ich Feunteun an aod (1981) und Puzzle (1994). Feunteun an aod ist nach wie vor meine bretonische Lieblingsplatte. Auf Puzzle haben Sonerien Du alte Stücke noch einmal neu und (meist besser) aufgenommen. Auch die neue CD Steir ist ziemlich gut. Amzer Glaz von 1986 mag ich dagegen wegen der penetranten Keyboards nicht. Auch die erste Aufnahme ist schwer anzuhören, fast so anstrengend wie ein Bombarden/Dudelsack-Duo.]
[Cette fois j'ai portraituré le groupe folk et folk-rock bretonne Sonerien du, qui a produit 13 K7s, LPs et CDs dans les 26 années de leur existance. Heuresment j'ai presque tous de ceux dans ma collection (seulement le LP roue marc'h de 1984 manque). Mes enregistrements preferés sont feunteun an aod (1981) et puzzle (1994). Feunteun an aod est un album folk extraordinaire beau et dans puzzle le du ont re-enregistré quelques de leurs meilleures morceaux en maniére particulierement bons. Leur dernier CD Steir me plait aussi. D'autre part je n'aime pas le LP amzer glaz de 1986 parce que le keyboard est trop dominant. Et le premier enregistrement de sonerien du est presque aussi fatigant qu'un couple bombarde-biniou.]
[In this show I presented the breton folk and folk rock band Sonerien Du that produced 13 cassettes, LPs and CDs during 26 years of existence. Luckily I have all but one (roue marc'h, 1984) in my collection. In my view the best albums are feunteun an aod (1981) and puzzle (1994). Feunteun an aod still is my favourite breton folk album, puzzle are great sonerien du-coverversions of old sonerien du-songs. Their last CD, steir, is as well a nice piece of music. I didn't like Amzer glaz, 1986, because of the predominant keyboard-playing. The first recording of sonerien du is not pleasant to hear either, it's almost as traditional as a duo pipe-bombarde.]
