[Vor einigen Wochen habe ich Tripfolk und andere düstere Musik aus Dänemark vorgestellt. Jetzt wollte ich "den Rest" präsentieren. Eigentlich, so dachte ich, müßte diese Sendung fröhlicher werden, denn die dänische Folksmusik gilt als die frühlichste in Skandinavien. Aber beim Auswählen der Tracks wähle ich dann doch meistens die "Moll-Stücke".]
[Some weeks ago I focused on the dark side of danish folk music and presented for example the tripfolk of sortenmuld and kauna. This time I wanted to present "the rest". Normally danish folk musik seems to be more gay than those of other scandinavian countries. But when I choose the tracks I mostly take the more "minor" ones.]

--------modern medieval german music--------
[Mittelalter-orientierte Musik ist derzeit in Deutschland ziemlich populär, populärer jedenfalls als klassische Folk-Musik. Dies liegt wohl vor allem an der zunehmenden Zahl sogenannter Mittelalter-Märkte, teilweise auch an der Vereinnahmung durch die Wave- und Gothik-Szene. Unterscheiden lassen sich grob zwei Richtungen in der Darstellung. Die eine Richtung ist eher show-orientiert und orientiert sich (recht frei) an der derben Stimmung mittelalterlicher Marktplätze. Die wichtigsten Gruppen sind Corvus Corax und In Extremo. Die andere, ruhigere, wird eher im Stil eines geistlichen oder höfischen Konzertes präsentiert. Hier sind die wichtigsten Gruppen Ony Wytars, Estampie und die Freiburger Spielleyt. In den letzten Jahren haben viele dieser Gruppen versucht, altes Material auf ganz neue Art zu spielen. Estampie und die Freiburger Spielleyt haben elektronisches Instrumentarium zugefügt. Corvus Corax experimentiert mit modernen Club Sounds, In Extremo bedienten sich in der Metal-Ecke. In dieser Sendung habe ich versucht, diese Entwicklung - mit Schwerpunkt auf den 90er-Jahren - nachzuzeichnen.]
[Medieval music ist quite popular in Germany nowadays, at least more popular than folk music is. One reason might be the growing number of so called medieval markets, another the interest of the wave and gothic scene. There are two main directions of german medieval music. One is more show-oriented and tries to create (rather freely) the coarse atmosphere of medieval market places. Main bands are Corvus Corax and In Exteremo, both from Berlin. The other side is represented by groups like Ony Wytars, Estampie and the Freiburger Spielleyt. Their music is more calm, presented rather in the style of an concert of sacred or courtly music. During the last years many of those groups tried to play the old material in a new way. Estampie and the Freiburger Spielleyt added electronic instruments. Corvus Corax experiment with modern club sounds and In Extremo now sound like a medieval metal band. In this programm I tried to demonstrate these developments with a focus on the 90s.]

[Triphop ist eine moderne Richtung der Popmusik, die Anfang der 90er Jahre entstand. Typisch sind ihre schleppenden Beats und die Verwendung elektronischer Effekte. Gleichzeitig erinnern aber oft Geigenensemble und düsterer (meist weiblicher) Gesang an klassische Songstrukturen. In dieser Sendung wollte ich zeigen, daß es in der dänischen Folkmusik einige Entwicklungen gibt, die in eine ähnliche Richtung weisen. Ich nenne sie daher Tripfolk.]
[Triphop is a modern style in popmusic, that came up at the early 90s. It uses slow beats, electronic effects, but on the other hand often there are violins and emotional (mostly female) dark singing. In this program I tried to show that some developments in danish folk music tend to create a similar folkstyle that I'd call Tripfolk.]

--------Europamusik--------
["Europamusik" is a term that is not common up to now (perhaps I happened to invent it). It's not just a sub-style of world-music (so I don't have to discuss this term here), but a musical genre within European Folk music that I'd like to define as follows:
1. "Europamusik" sounds like folk Music.
2. You can hear it's coming from Europe.
3. But you cannot attach it to a certain country or region.
That kind of (mostly composed) music is very important in German folk music of the 90s (U.L.M.A.N, Hoelderlin Express, Jams, Rolling Drones, Schluesselbund, Passepartout). A reason for this development might be, that in Germany only in few regions (esp. the alps) a living musical tradition exists.
But there are examples for "Europamusik" in other european countries as well: Orion, Fluxus (both Belgium), Deishovida (Austria) or Ottopasuuna (Finland).
In my view the developpement started in the 70s by musicians which weren't in the center of the folk movement, but did some nice folk-influenced "symphonies" (Mike Oldfield, Flairck). More folky has been the british supergroup Blowzabella, which played a lot of "Europamusik".
At the end of my show I turned back to Germany in order to mention that the small boom of medieval music in Germany today (Adaro, Corvus Corax, In Extremo) might be another aspect of a german decline to "Europamusik", because in the middle ages the music scene in Europe hasn't been as fragmented as at the end of last century.]
